Many websites have been suggesting that if you have not yet installed the Windows 8 DP or do not want to go through the hassle of installing it, but still want to get a taste of Windows 8, you can install Windows 8 Simulator.
Download this app from Microsoft Store for Windows 10, HoloLens, Xbox One. With BSOD Simulator, you decides what appears on the screen.
Windows 8 Simulator is not a transformation pack; consider it a desktop application if you wish. Sure it’s nowhere near the real thing, nor does it contain everything that Windows 8 DP offers, but still its an interesting freeware to try out. All you have to do is download the setup file and install it. It runs as a virtual copy of Windows 8 in its own little window.
But unfortunately, the program is not as innocent as it looks or claims to be. While it aims to give users a feel of Windows 8, it comes with its own BSOD, along with some typo’s.
Clicking on ‘Suggestions to this error’ displays an advertisement for Ubuntu.
The advertisement has Bill Gates recommending Ubuntu. Thedownload link of course takes you back to this page on the same site.
Tsk, tsk! Ubuntu does not need that! Don’t do Linux a disservice!
Many Windows blogs and freeware websites have been openly promoting this freeware, not knowing that it sneakily promotes Ubuntu. Maybe they did not get a BSOD. Maybe I was unlucky enough … or should I say lucky enough, to get a Blue Screen !
But as I said, it’s a fun app to try. You can run it on your Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and of course on Windows 7.
Head over to its home page to download it. It’s a 8.82MB download.
Uh … just in case you do decide to try it out, once you have had your share of fun, do remember to head over to the Control Panel to uninstall this sneaky software!
